Simmons Bed Wins '2020 Job of the Year Award'
Employment Growth Rate Hits 21%... Leading Industry Companies Continue Investing in Human Capital
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Simmons, a sleep specialty brand, won the grand prize in the private sector job creation category at the '2020 Job of the Year Awards.' The company was recognized for creating quality jobs and achieving employment stability despite the employment difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2020 Job of the Year Awards select companies, institutions, and organizations that have led job creation and employment stability. The awards are jointly hosted by the Chosun Ilbo, Ministry of Employment and Labor, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Ministry of Science and ICT, Ministry of SMEs and Startups, and Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, with a rigorous evaluation by a panel of experts from academia and industry.
As of last month, Simmons recorded an increase of 88 employees, surpassing 500 employees in total. The employment growth rate for this year alone reached 21%. This is the result of generous human investment driven by a humanistic management philosophy and the responsibility as a leading company in the bed industry. Notably, among all employees, 285 (56.1%) are young workers under the age of 34, achieving an ideal balance between new and experienced staff and accelerating the development of future talent.
Additionally, Simmons Beds actively promotes the hiring of female workers, contributing to the establishment of an equal recruitment culture. Currently, women make up more than 40% of the total workforce.
Furthermore, Simmons provides jobs to vulnerable groups such as seniors and families who have immigrated from overseas, helping them achieve self-reliance. Specifically, based on the wishes of workers reaching retirement age, the company offers extended employment and treatment equivalent to that before retirement, and operates an internship program linked with local support centers to hire female workers who have immigrated from abroad.
Moreover, Simmons Beds has implemented the 'Halfday' system, working only four hours (8:30 AM to 12:30 PM) every Friday in line with the 52-hour workweek system, leading not only in hiring but also in ensuring employees' work-life balance (WLB).
