US COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout Begins: First Dose Administered to Black Nurse in New York City
Vaccinations Begin Immediately Upon Vaccine Arrival
Trump "Congratulations to the World"
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] The COVID-19 vaccination has begun in the United States.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced on the 14th (local time) that Sandra Linzy, an ICU nurse at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in Queens, New York City, was the first person in the U.S. to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
President Donald Trump also tweeted, "The first vaccine has been administered. Congratulations to the United States and the whole world."
The scene of Nurse Linzy receiving the COVID-19 vaccine was broadcast live on TV. Nurse Linzy said, "I feel hope and relief today," adding, "I hope this marks the beginning of the end of a very painful time for our country."
The start of vaccination came just three days after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the emergency use of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine on the evening of the 11th.
Vaccinations are being prioritized for healthcare workers such as doctors and nurses, as well as residents of long-term care facilities.
