[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the 14th, the People Power Party defined the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) as a 'K-quarantine failure' and urged President Moon Jae-in to apologize and promptly secure vaccines.
Kim Jong-in, the emergency committee chairman of the People Power Party, said at the emergency committee meeting held at the National Assembly on the same day, "Securing COVID-19 vaccines is a lifeline for the people," and added, "President Moon Jae-in and the government should sincerely apologize to the people for the failure of K-quarantine and focus national power on diplomatic cooperation to secure vaccines generously even now, or early negotiations with a third vaccine development pharmaceutical company."
Chairman Kim said, "Considering the current situation, I think the K-quarantine that the government boasts of has reached its limit," and added, "Please make a cold judgment and establish a new quarantine system." He also pointed out, "Especially regarding vaccines, the public is very puzzled about how to trust the government's statements," and said, "Some say that vaccination will be possible by March next year, but in reality, since vaccines have not been secured, it is hard not to have doubts about whether it can be trusted."
Chairman Kim said, "President Moon contributed to the development of the COVID-19 vaccine last March, but so far, please report the progress of vaccine development in detail to the people," and added, "While countries like the United States and the United Kingdom have already started vaccinations, we demand answers to the public's curiosity about the fact that vaccine development and purchase have not been properly done. Until recently, the Minister of Health and Welfare stated that the vaccine procurement situation was not unfavorable, which was a lie that covered the eyes and ears of the people, greatly losing public trust. Please clarify how you will take measures."
After the meeting on the same day, Chairman Kim told reporters, "I think the issue of raising social distancing to level 3 may be urgent," and said, "Prior preparation for the economic and social problems that will ripple out should be done first to minimize the impact."
Joo Ho-young, the floor leader of the People Power Party, said, "It has been revealed that more than 120 billion won was spent boasting and promoting the non-existent K-quarantine, but the necessary measures to end COVID-19 were not properly taken," and criticized, "What is needed to end COVID-19 is vaccines, hospital beds, and medical staff. They say vaccines are well prepared, but other countries have started vaccinations while we are saying February to March next year. It would be fortunate if that happens."

Floor leader Joo said, "Based on the lessons from the outbreak in Daegu, we emphasized the need to secure hospital beds, but not only have they not been prepared at all, but even consolation money for medical staff who volunteered in Daegu has not yet been paid," and added, "More than 2,000 interns who should have been deployed for COVID-19 quarantine cannot be utilized because they did not retake the medical licensing exam. I hope the national exam will be held promptly so that medical personnel can be deployed to the field."
