[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] Bloomberg reported on the 13th (local time) that U.S. President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, and other U.S. leaders are scheduled to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
According to the report, essential White House personnel and employees of three key departments are also expected to be vaccinated within 10 days.
The White House National Security Council (NSC) also announced this plan. The NSC stated, "The American people should be confident that they are receiving the same safe and effective vaccine as senior U.S. government officials, based on the advice of public health experts and national security leadership."
Earlier, President-elect Joe Biden, former President Barack Obama, and former President Bill Clinton expressed their intention to be publicly vaccinated to alleviate vaccine hesitancy.
This is interpreted as the U.S. government’s effort to address concerns about the vaccine among Americans by vaccinating senior officials.
On the same day, U.S. health officials warned that the spread of skepticism about the vaccine could be an obstacle to achieving herd immunity through vaccination.
Stephen Hahn, Commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), appeared on ABC and said, "The way we see the light at the end of this tunnel and get through it is by achieving herd immunity," emphasizing, "This means that a very large number of people in this country, including those who are hesitant, need to be vaccinated."
