Mokpo Coast Guard Arrests Chinese Fishing Vessel for Illegal Fishing near Gageodo Sea
The 3015 Ship Captures Unauthorized Fishing Vessel That Fled After Seizure Within 9 Minutes

View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Ki-dong] Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Jung Young-jin) announced on the 11th that on the 10th, they discovered and captured the unauthorized single-net Chinese fishing vessel Noyeongeoho (100t, 450 horsepower, steel hull, registered in Seokdo, with 6 crew members) illegally fishing beyond our fishing agreement line after a chase.
The Chinese fishing vessel had departed from Seokdo Port, China, on the 1st and was reportedly fishing illegally without permission on the morning of the 10th in the waters 105 km northwest of Gageodo, Sinan County (6 km inside the fishing agreement line).
The Mokpo Maritime Police vessel 3015 (Captain Park Kyung-chae), upon discovering the illegal fishing activity near Gageodo, approached Noyeongeoho and issued an order to stop, but the vessel ignored the order and fled.
Consequently, the 3015 immediately deployed the Maritime Special Task Force to pursue the Chinese vessel, stopping and capturing it within 9 minutes, then escorting it to the Mokpo quarantine anchorage. After anchoring at 7:30 a.m. on the 11th, quarantine and COVID-19 prevention measures were conducted in cooperation with related agencies.
A Mokpo Maritime Police official stated, “To protect fishery resources in the West Sea and uphold maritime sovereignty, we will relentlessly and strongly crack down on foreign fishing vessels conducting illegal or unauthorized fishing.”
