Geochang-gun Secures 201.6 Billion KRW in National Road Funds for 2021... Smooth Progress of Local Projects
295 Billion KRW (17.1%) Increase Compared to This Year, Focused on Completing Key Projects of the 7th Local Government Term
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 10th that it secured 201.6 billion won, the largest amount ever, with a 29.5 billion won (17.1%) increase in the 2021 national and provincial budget.
This shows a remarkable increase of 69.7 billion won (49.5%) in 2021 compared to 140.9 billion won in 2017 before Governor Gu In-mo's inauguration.
The county formed a budget securing TF team and conducted all-out visits targeting central government ministries and Gyeongsangnam-do departments.
Major projects by sector include 1.1 billion won for the construction of a multipurpose gymnasium, 1.2 billion won for remodeling the Geochang Culture Center, 1.5 billion won for ecological resource development of the waterfront space at Changpoweon, 2.3 billion won for the creation of Speed Extreme Town, 1.2 billion won for the development of Bbaejjae Extreme Leisure Adventure Town, 1.4 billion won for the foundation of an anti-aging recreational experience district, and 200 million won for the construction of the 2nd Sports Park in the culture, tourism, and sports sector.
In the social welfare sector, 2.1 billion won was allocated for the construction of a senior nursing facility, 800 million won for the establishment of a family center, and 400 million won for the expansion of daycare centers.
In the agriculture and forestry sector, 17.1 billion won was allocated for basic public interest direct payments, 1.7 billion won for fostering basic living bases, 1.8 billion won for the construction of a future agriculture complex education center, 1.7 billion won for New Vitality Plus, 1.3 billion won for rural hub revitalization, and 700 million won for improving living conditions in vulnerable areas.
In the industry, small and medium enterprises, transportation, and logistics sectors, 4.8 billion won was allocated for creating a global elevator hub city, 800 million won for renewable energy convergence support, 1.3 billion won for public parking lot construction, and 800 million won for maintenance of steep slope collapse risk zones.
In the land and regional development sector, 3.4 billion won was secured for maintenance of aging water supply networks, 1.8 billion won for expansion of Geochang sewage treatment facilities, 1.2 billion won for ecological river restoration of Ungokcheon Stream, 4.5 billion won for the construction of the access road to Geoyeolsanseong Fortress, 1.2 billion won for small-scale water facility improvement projects, and 500 million won for urban regeneration New Deal projects.
Gu In-mo, Governor of Geochang-gun, expressed, “With the secured budget for next year’s important pending projects that will lead the county’s future 100 years of change, we will focus administrative power to leap forward as the central city of western Gyeongnam.” He also extended deep gratitude to local National Assembly members, provincial councilors, county councilors, and central government officials who worked together to secure the budget.

The county continues to visit central government ministries such as the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to request budget increases for pending projects, and is persistently working to reflect next year’s budget for projects such as the construction of National Road No. 3 with 32.4 billion won, the 2nd Changpoweon development project, and the southern bypass road construction project.
