Tata Daewoo Launches Compact Truck 'The Ssen'... Prices Starting from 51 Million KRW
[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle launched a new medium-duty truck, ‘the CEN,’ on the 10th.
On the same day, Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle held an online launch event called 'the CEN Experience' through its official YouTube channel and unveiled the CEN. The CEN is the first medium-duty truck from Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle with a payload capacity ranging from 3 tons to 5 tons, and contracts will begin nationwide at Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle dealerships starting from the 14th.
The CEN is equipped with the ‘ED45 (Euro Dynamic 45)’ engine, which has been verified in Europe, delivering class-leading driving performance with 186 to 206 horsepower. This reflects the demands of consumers seeking higher output and stronger driving performance.
In particular, the ED45 engine installed in the CEN not only meets Euro 6 emission regulations but also incorporates the latest Hi-SCR exhaust gas control technology, providing excellent emission reduction effects during urban driving, which involves many low- to mid-speed sections.
The transmission maximizes efficiency by applying the industry’s first 8-speed fully automatic transmission. The ZF 8-speed fully automatic transmission applied to the CEN is a multi-speed automatic transmission mainly used in premium passenger cars. It optimally utilizes engine performance based on finely segmented gear ratios matching engine RPM, improving fuel efficiency and providing a smooth driving experience.
The braking system is designed to deliver excellent braking performance by adopting the ‘full air brake’ system commonly used in large trucks. Additionally, the ‘hill-start assist’ system is applied as a standard auxiliary braking device to prevent accidents that may occur when starting after stopping on slopes. Furthermore, driving assistance systems such as ▲emergency braking system ▲lane departure warning system ▲vehicle stability control system have been added to enhance safety features.
The exterior design adopts an overall streamlined shape, shedding the rigid image of trucks and emphasizing soft volume. In particular, the large grille extending from the front panel to the bumper and the horn-shaped panel located at the top of the grille emit a strong and majestic atmosphere while emphasizing a high-performance image. LED daytime running lights are applied as standard to complete sharp eyes, and the 3-ton and 4-ton models feature body one-tone colors around the fog lights, while the 5-ton model applies a Hyper Silver color for differentiation.
The interior of the CEN was developed focusing on driver convenience. Air suspension seats, mainly applied in medium- and large-sized trucks or larger vehicles, are applied for the first time in a medium-duty truck to reduce driver fatigue. Additionally, ample and efficient storage space was secured by placing storage compartments throughout the interior space within the driver’s reach.
Moreover, the CEN increases the payload capacity by 0.5 tons compared to the existing medium-duty truck market models, which were commonly 2.5 tons, 3.5 tons, and 4.5 tons, releasing models with 3 tons, 4 tons, and 5 tons respectively, allowing truck drivers to carry and drive with more cargo.
The launch price for the main models is in the range of 51 million to 52 million KRW for the 4-ton long-wheelbase model, and 59 million to 60 million KRW for the 5-ton Penta ultra-long-wheelbase model.
