LH to Launch Shared PM Pilot Project in Wirye New Town
[Asia Economy Reporter Chunhee Lee] Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) is promoting the introduction of shared Personal Mobility (PM) in Wirye New Town.
On the 10th, LH announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the joint implementation of a shared personal mobility pilot project with Songpa-gu, Seongnam City, and Hanam City.
Personal Mobility (PM) refers to personal transportation devices mainly used to travel from subway stations and bus stops to the final destination.
This agreement aims to pilot the introduction of shared PM in Wirye New Town to verify its role and usability, while also addressing concerns about safety accidents arising from the revised and enforced Road Traffic Act and the expansion of PM usage. The agreement was signed non-face-to-face in accordance with social distancing guidelines.
According to the agreement, LH will jointly call for proposals for shared PM pilot project operators with each local government within this month. The selected operator, after proposal evaluation, will sign an agreement with LH and the local governments and operate the pilot project in Wirye New Town for one year.
LH will oversee the pilot project, review potential issues arising from PM traveling on bicycle lanes, and examine road maintenance plans for safe driving, including suitable road construction methods and materials for PM. Additionally, LH will be responsible for installing PM-related facilities such as guidance signs and stands that harmonize with the urban image. Songpa-gu, Seongnam City, and Hanam City will provide administrative support for PM operation.
Through this pilot project, LH plans to accumulate and analyze data on shared PM usage patterns and major user routes, which will be utilized in the future to establish and revise related guidelines in collaboration with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
