Sejong Establishes 'Self-Reading' System for Water and Sewage Usage... Discounts Offered for Use
[Asia Economy (Sejong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Sejong City will allow households to self-read their water and sewage usage and provide discounts on fees in such cases.
The city announced on the 9th that it will operate an integrated management system for water and sewage fee information using this method starting next year.
The integrated management system enables residential meter users to directly read their water usage and, based on the entered data, provides services such as fee guidance and inquiry, as well as additional information on water usage and fees.
In particular, the city plans to offer a monthly discount of 500 KRW (approximately 1 ton) to households that self-read their usage either online or manually through the integrated management system.
Earlier, the city began building the integrated management system in July and completed the project by the end of this month. Full-scale system operation is expected to start early next year.
The integrated management system is anticipated to prevent privacy invasion issues caused by meter readers' visits and minimize fee-related complaints.
Above all, the city expects that easier access to fee and payment information and a payment structure linked with financial institutions will increase the fee collection rate.

The city plans to actively expand and encourage the self-reading system through benefits such as partial fee discounts.”
