Jungnang-gu '2020 Volunteer Day' Commemoration Event Canceled
The '2020 Volunteer Day' ceremony scheduled for the 8th was canceled due to the severity of COVID-19... Instead, certificates and vests were mailed to volunteers
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) will deliver items to volunteers, including the 10,000-hour Volunteer King, on the 8th to commemorate the '2020 Volunteer Day.'
Considering the severe COVID-19 situation, the planned ceremony has been canceled, and certificates, volunteer vests, badges, and other items will be awarded by mail.
The 'Volunteer Day' ceremony is an occasion where volunteers who have widely practiced neighborly love in the community with warm hearts and dedication to help neighbors despite difficult and challenging conditions gather to comfort and encourage each other regarding their activities.
This year's ceremony will produce and award individual volunteer vests and badges to Volunteer Kings who have volunteered for more than 10,000 hours, honoring volunteers who have devoted their lives to volunteering.
In particular, one of the Volunteer Kings, Kim Do-sun, moved many by producing and donating cloth masks with his disaster relief fund at the beginning of this year when there was difficulty in securing COVID-19 masks.
Also, last summer, he became a role model for neighbors by donating his talent, such as giving lectures on how to make masks to produce cool masks.
Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, "It is meaningful to celebrate those who have worked for their neighbors despite the difficult conditions such as the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic," and added, "Thanks to all of you who quietly work for your neighbors in your own places, Jungnang will become a warmer community."
According to the 2019 Seoul Survey social investigation results, Jungnang-gu was announced as the second highest in volunteer participation rate among Seoul's autonomous districts. As of September 2020, the number of registered volunteers in Jungnang-gu was 105,016, and the volunteer participation rate rose by 9.5% from 11.1% in 2018 to 20.6% in 2019.
This is 7% higher than the average participation rate of 13.6% among autonomous districts, showing that many residents are participating in creating a warm local community. Representative groups include the 'Eternal Memory Volunteer Group,' which manages the graves of patriotic martyrs resting in Manguri Park, the youth volunteer groups 'Volunteer-ya Nolja,' and the 'Haedoduri Family Volunteer Group.'
