Started jointly with the Department of Teacher Education since last year, the ‘Best Teacher’ program in 2020 was operated with a total of five special lectures including prevention of sexual violence and sexual harassment, improvement of awareness of people with disabilities, multicultural awareness improvement, human rights, and suicide prevention (counseling) to cultivate the character of pre-service teachers and strengthen the professionalism required in school settings, receiving great responses from students preparing for teaching careers.
This special lecture was conducted in a discussion format with 47 students from the College of Education and the Department of Teacher Education under the theme ‘The Teacher in My Heart,’ where Director Kim Gap-su shared his image of a teacher and pre-service teachers wrote and presented their own images of teachers.
Additionally, videos of teachers from the movies Friend and Dead Poets Society were shown, and pre-service teachers were given time to think about and present “what kind of teacher image I will create in the future,” providing an opportunity for communication about what makes a good teacher.
Kang Il-guk, the newly appointed dean of the College of Education, said, “I agree with Director Kim’s remark that ‘the best teacher is someone who believes in students and waits for them,’” adding, “Despite the difficult conditions due to COVID-19, this 2020 Best Teacher program special lecture, appropriately conducted both face-to-face and online, provided our students with an opportunity to take a step closer to becoming excellent teachers.”
Also, among the 2020 Best Teacher program, educational video lectures to prepare for the teacher certification exam will be available for students to watch individually until January next year, followed by an evaluation.
