Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Signs Letter of Intent to Build 10 LNG Dual-Fuel VLCCs with European Shipowners
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) is set to actively pursue orders after successfully securing contracts for up to 10 liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel ultra-large crude carriers (ULCCs).
On the 7th, DSME announced that it had signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with a European shipowner for the construction of 10 LNG dual-fuel ULCCs. The final contract is expected to be signed before the first quarter of next year.
The vessels covered by the LOI are 300,000-ton class ULCCs, and if the final contract is signed, these will be the first LNG dual-fuel ULCCs built by the company. Following LNG-powered LNG carriers, container ships, shuttle tankers, and LPG-powered LPG carriers, DSME will have secured orders for LNG-powered oil tankers, achieving success in LNG/LPG-powered vessels across all ship types.
In particular, due to the global trend toward environmental friendliness, demand for LNG dual-fuel oil tankers is expected to increase in the future.
