Sejong-si Introduces KakaoT Blue Taxi, Operating from This Month
[Asia Economy (Sejong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Kakao Mobility's affiliated taxi service, 'Kakao T Blue' taxi (hereinafter Kakao Taxi), will operate in Sejong city starting from the 8th of this month.
Sejong city announced on the 7th that five local corporate taxi companies have recently confirmed the introduction of Kakao Taxi and will begin operations.
About 100 Kakao Taxis will initially operate, and the number of vehicles will be increased in line with the pace of service stabilization.
The biggest advantage of this taxi is that it is a call-only taxi with no ride refusals; when a user calls via the app, an available nearby vehicle is automatically assigned without exception.
The fare includes the taxi meter fare plus a commission fee (0 KRW to 3,000 KRW) depending on the call demand. Local taxi users can freely choose between Kakao Taxi and the existing general or smart call services (commission fee 0 KRW to 1,000 KRW).
In Sejong, the number of users per taxi has exceeded 1,000, nearly six times higher than in Seoul or Daejeon. Due to this, many citizens have experienced inconvenience in using taxis, but increasing the number of taxis is difficult because of the government's total taxi volume restriction policy.

Regarding this, Lee Sang-ok, head of the city's Transportation Division, said, "We expect that the introduction of Kakao Taxi will improve the efficiency of taxi transportation and partially alleviate citizens' inconvenience in using taxis," and added, "The city plans to actively request the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to increase the number of taxis in the region, independently of the Kakao Taxi introduction."
