Sangju City Opens Applications for Next Year's Rice and Potato Seed Distribution... "Severe Shortage of Rice Seed Supply"
Due to frequent typhoons this year, seed production volume has significantly decreased compared to the average.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] Sangju City Agricultural Technology Center (Director Son Sang-don) announced on the 4th that applications for rice certified seeds will be accepted at the Eup, Myeon, and Dong administrative welfare centers until the 14th, and for spring potato certified seeds (Chungi batch) until the 28th, to ensure smooth rice and potato farming in 2021.
The rice certified seeds consist of four varieties: Haedam, Samgwang, Ilpum, and Baekokchal, totaling 144 tons. They will be supplied through local agricultural cooperatives starting mid-January next year.
Starting this year, due to changes in the National Seed Management Office's system aimed at preventing pesticide misuse caused by overlapping disinfection, all seeds will be distributed as untreated seeds. The spring potatoes are of the Sumi variety, totaling 51 tons. Like the rice seeds, they will be distributed through local agricultural cooperatives from the end of January.

Choi Nak-du, Head of Technology Distribution Division, stated, "Due to frequent heavy rains and consecutive typhoons, the seed production volume has significantly decreased compared to average years, resulting in a shortage of supply. Therefore, we recommend using a portion of this year's harvest as seeds for next year."
