Assemblyman Lee Byung-hoon Secures Additional 11.45 Billion Won in Government Budget for Next Year
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Lee Byung-hoon, a member of the National Assembly (Democratic Party of Korea·Gwangju Dong-gu Nam-gu Eul), announced on the 3rd that during the 2021 government budget bill review process at the National Assembly Budget and Accounts Committee, an additional 11.45 billion KRW was reflected for four projects.
The budget additionally secured by Assemblyman Lee includes "2 billion KRW for Asia Culture Plaza Content Development," "4 billion KRW for Asia Art Talent Training Hub Creation," "3 billion KRW for UNESCO Media Art Platform Facade Construction," and "2.45 billion KRW for AI-based Bio Healthcare Platform Development."
The "Asia Culture Plaza Content Development" project aims to renew and develop digital contents such as light and video to transform the May 18 Democratic Plaza into a cultural plaza reflecting the characteristics of Asian culture.
The "Asia Art Talent Training" project involves remodeling the former Gwangju Girls' High School gymnasium building to create an art talent training space linked with the Asia Culture Center.
The "UNESCO Media Art Platform Facade Construction" project is intended to make the Ideo Art Platform building along the Seodong Gwangju Stream, whose design has been completed, a new landmark of Gwangju by implementing creative and innovative media facade content on its exterior walls.
The "AI-based Bio Healthcare Platform Development" project is promoted with the aim of fostering new industries in Gwangju by developing a commercialization platform in the bio healthcare field based on artificial intelligence in the Seonam-dong area of Dong-gu.
In addition to the "Asia Culture-Centered City Special Account" budget secured by Assemblyman Lee during the Ministry of Economy and Finance’s budget formulation stage to revitalize Gwangju’s old downtown, as well as budgets related to arts, tourism, and AI new industries, additional budgets were secured during the National Assembly Budget and Accounts Committee review stage, enabling Gwangju to pursue distinctive hub projects that differentiate it from other regions in the future.

Assemblyman Lee said, "The budgets confirmed through the significant increase in the government budget bill are essential for the revival of the old downtown and serve as a turning point for Gwangju’s growth as a cultural city," adding, "Since the budget for project implementation has been secured, during the remaining regular session of the National Assembly, I will ensure the revision of the Asia Culture Center Special Act to normalize the National Asia Culture Center, thereby completing the final touch for the development of the Gwangju region."
