[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) announced on the 3rd that the "Songpa-gu Volunteer Disaster Prevention Corps" achieved the great honor of being selected for the Safety Award at the 6th Seoul Metropolitan City Safety Awards.
The Seoul Metropolitan City Safety Award, established in 2015, is a system that discovers and awards citizens and organizations who have devoted themselves to spreading safety awareness among citizens and advancing Seoul as a safe city. The "Songpa-gu Volunteer Disaster Prevention Corps" was honored to be selected for this year's Safety Award.
The "Songpa-gu Volunteer Disaster Prevention Corps" is an organization established in 2010 to encourage active participation of civilians from the early stages of disasters. It consists of local residents who know the local conditions well and voluntarily participate in disaster prevention activities in their own neighborhoods.
Led by Chief Kim Hyun-soon, 276 members from 27 neighborhoods within the district have been actively engaged in all areas related to disasters, including prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery, faithfully fulfilling their role as local safety leaders.
In particular, this year, to prevent the local spread of COVID-19, a "Private Special Disinfection Team" was formed in March, with a total of 4,882 participants from the 27 neighborhoods conducting disinfection and sterilization at 17,458 locations such as playgrounds, parks, and multi-use facilities.
As of November, they conducted ▲630 safety inspections ▲643 campaign participations ▲1,569 promotional activities.
They also actively participated in monthly Safety Inspection Day events, leading safety inspections and safety-related campaigns, contributing to the spread of a local safety culture.
