CU Expands ‘Naver Smart Order’ Service to 5,000 Stores Nationwide
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] CU announced on the 3rd that it will expand the ‘Naver Smart Order’ service nationwide starting this month, marking the beginning of the full-scale portal delivery era.
Since March, CU has been testing a service where customers can order and pay using Naver Smart Order at stores within a 1.5 km radius exposed on Naver, mainly in Seoul and the metropolitan area, and have their orders delivered.
CU is expanding this service nationwide about nine months after its introduction because the number of customers using CU delivery services through Naver Smart Order is rapidly increasing.
According to CU, the number of uses of the Naver Smart Order service last month increased by 315.9% compared to March, and the order amount also jumped by 389.8% during the same period.
The recent surge in the number of users of this service is due to the platform’s excellent accessibility and convenience. The Smart Order service allows customers to use CU delivery services simply by searching without the need to install a separate app, and they can also use Naver Pay, Naver’s proprietary simple payment method.
Thanks to the high accumulation rate and payment convenience, the number of Naver Pay members is rapidly increasing, and consequently, the number of Smart Order users who can easily complete everything from search to order and payment is also rising.
Franchisees’ responses are also positive. As the frequency of store searches on Naver increases, they can increase exposure to customers, and the commission fees are among the lowest in the industry, so the store’s burden is relatively low.
CU plans to significantly expand the service from about 500 stores to about 5,000 stores by mid-month.
To celebrate the nationwide expansion of the Naver Smart Order service, CU will run a customer promotion from the 15th to the 31st of this month, offering a 3,000 KRW discount on delivery fees for first-time customers. Along with this, Naver Pay points of 2,000 KRW per order and an additional 2% accumulation of the payment amount will be provided until the end of this month.
Jung Saeng-hae, head of BGF Retail’s e-commerce team, said, “Naver Smart Order supports Naver Pay point payments with over 30 million members, and we expect the number of users to continue to increase. CU, leading the delivery service on the largest scale in the industry, will continue to proactively pursue partnerships with various platforms in line with the changing environment.”
