[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 2nd that it will pay 10.1 billion KRW in Basic Public Interest Direct Payments for 2020 to about 8,900 farming households.
The Basic Public Interest Direct Payment system is a program that provides subsidies to farmers to create more public benefits such as environmental and ecological protection and restoration of rural communities, which everyone can enjoy through agricultural activities.
With the newly implemented Basic Public Interest Direct Payment in 2020, the payment rate has increased, raising the total payment amount by 4.6 billion KRW compared to 5.5 billion KRW in the previous year (rice fixed and variable direct payments + field fixed direct payments) to 10.1 billion KRW. The average payment per person increased by 450,000 KRW to 1.13 million KRW compared to the previous year.
Gwangju City received applications from May to June, and after verifying the eligible farmland and farmers, as well as the requirements for small-scale direct payments and checking compliance, it finalized about 8,900 farmers and agricultural corporations as payment recipients.
The public interest direct payments will be made to farming households starting from the 4th, following administrative procedures such as confirming payment accounts by autonomous districts.
