Hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, this award is given to individuals, organizations, and companies that demonstrate exemplary volunteer work. It has been held annually in line with the International Volunteer Day established by the United Nations (December 5).
This year, due to social distancing measures, the award ceremony scheduled for the 4th will not be held, and the certificates and prizes will be delivered separately.
The Hongje 3-dong Volunteer Camp was selected as an award-winning organization in recognition of its contribution to enhancing community welfare through village-level volunteer activities connecting local residents, organizations, and institutions.
Representative activities include ▲ operating the village community space ‘Hongsam Cafe’ ▲ running the ‘Story-filled Laundry Room,’ which collects, washes, and delivers laundry for neighbors in need ▲ and operating ‘Hongsam Radio’ for communication with residents.
The name ‘Hongsam’ was created based on ‘Hongje 3-dong.’
Also, since the implementation of social distancing this year, the camp has actively engaged in making and distributing cloth masks for local seniors and vulnerable groups, as well as conducting disinfection activities in parks, walking trails, and exercise facilities.
Additionally, they held environmental campaigns and online laughter vitality classes, and carried out the ‘Hello Campaign,’ which involves checking on and ensuring the safety of elderly living alone by delivering moisture absorbers and handmade ginger syrup according to the seasons.
Due to these diverse activities, since 2018, more than 300 people from 15 volunteer organizations nationwide, including Bucheon City and Namhae County, have visited Hongje 3-dong to benchmark the volunteer camp.
