Warm Winter Love Kimchi Sharing Continues in Seongbuk
Seongbuk-gu Continues Kimchi Sharing Event for Underprivileged... Over 8,000kg Kimchi Preparation for Underprivileged Started on the 5th Last Month in Front Yard of District Office
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) held a beautiful kimchi-making relay for the underprivileged throughout November.
Starting with a large-scale kimchi-making event on November 5th in front of the district office, where Mayor Lee Seung-ro of Seongbuk-gu, military personnel, Saemaeul Women's Association and council members from each neighborhood gathered to make about 8,000 kg of kimchi, kimchi-making events continued individually in all 20 neighborhoods to help neighbors in need within the community.
Neighborhood community centers, councils, and local religious organizations rolled up their sleeves to support the winter preparations of the underprivileged, including elderly living alone, led by residents.
Seokgwan-dong (Neighborhood Chief Lee Dae-hyun) also contributed at the final stage of the kimchi-making relay.
The Seongbuk Comprehensive Sports Town Early Childhood Physical Education Group (Seongbuk Urban Management Corporation Chairman Park Geun-jong) and Seokgwan Jeil Church directly made kimchi and delivered loving kimchi to 56 low-income underprivileged households.
At the Seongbuk Comprehensive Sports Town Early Childhood Physical Education Group, about 60 people including children, parents, teachers, and corporation staff experienced kimchi-making using napa cabbages they cultivated themselves, and some of the kimchi was donated to neighbors in need.
During the kimchi-making, compliance with quarantine rules was not neglected. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the kimchi-making was conducted in three groups at different times.
Later, Seokgwan Jeil Church (Senior Pastor Jung Jin-sung) also donated 50 boxes of kimchi made by the congregation to the community center to be delivered to neighbors.
Along with the kimchi, 50 boxes of ramen and 50 homemade roll cakes were also delivered, bringing great joy to the recipients.
Mayor Lee Seung-ro of Seongbuk-gu, who attended the sharing event, expressed gratitude, saying, “I am thankful that the religious community, which is going through great difficulties due to COVID-19, actively participates in practicing neighborly love.”
Lee Dae-hyun, Neighborhood Chief of Seokgwan-dong, said, “Thanks to those who care about their neighbors, we were able to feel warm affection during the cold winter,” and expressed thanks, adding, “We will deliver not only the donated items but also the sincerity and love prepared to the recipients evenly.”
At the end of November, Jongam-dong also held a kimchi-sharing event for the winter season. The local community welfare council, which practices sharing every year to help vulnerable groups have a healthy winter, delivered kimchi and masks sponsored by the ‘Jongam-dong Youth Association’ to vulnerable groups in the area on the 27th, conveying a message of overcoming COVID-19 together.
This sharing event was made more meaningful as it was funded by the Jongam-dong Community Welfare Council through the operation of Jongam e-Shop (an unmanned market for donated goods), sponsorship from the profits of the residents’ autonomous committee’s book cafe, and voluntary donations from local residents.
Mayor Lee Seung-ro of Seongbuk-gu said, “I hope the beautiful image of the community steadily practicing sharing for neighbors in need continues.”
