Establishment of 'Digital Innovation Team' Directly Under Bank President to Accelerate Digital Transformation
External Experts Kim Hyeju and Kim Junhwan Appointed as Suitable Leaders for Innovation 추진
[Asia Economy Reporter Kangwook Cho] Shinhan Bank announced on the 1st that it has established a digital innovation organization and recruited external experts to lead it in order to transform into a true digital company.
First, Shinhan Bank will establish the 'Digital Innovation Team,' an innovation promotion organization directly under the bank president. The 'Digital Innovation Team' was established to transition into a 'customer-centric top-tier Digital Banking Company.' It consists of four organizations: the AI Unit (formerly AI Integration Center, AICC), MyData Unit (dedicated to the MyData business), Data Unit (formerly Big Data Center), and Digital R&D Center.
In particular, to accelerate innovation, Shinhan Bank recruited former KT Executive Director Hyeju Kim and former SK Inc. C&C Executive Director Junhwan Kim as leaders to lead the 'Digital Innovation Team.'
Executive Director Hyeju Kim, who will oversee the MyData business, completed her master's and doctoral coursework in statistics at Seoul National University. She has worked at SAS Korea, SK Telecom, served as CRM Manager at Samsung Electronics, and Executive Director in charge of AI Big Data Convergence Business at KT. Hyeju Kim is recognized as a first-generation data scientist in Korea and a big data expert with extensive practical experience in data analysis across various industries such as manufacturing and telecommunications. She is acknowledged as a qualified candidate well-versed in both theory and practice of the MyData business, based on her recent experience in commercializing big data-based services and her advisory roles in government agencies.
Executive Director Junhwan Kim, who will oversee the Data Unit, holds a master's and doctoral degree from KAIST. He has worked at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the U.S., Samsung Electronics, and led the Big Data and AI division as a group leader at SK Inc. C&C. Junhwan Kim has strengths in applying big data and AI to business operations and modeling business frameworks. Through projects in various industries, he possesses excellent experience and capabilities across the data industry, including platform construction, data collection and analysis, and AI technology application. He is especially recognized for his high understanding of AI and big data businesses in the banking sector.
Shinhan Financial Group has promoted open recruitment from a perspective of openness and innovation, appointing external experts in various fields such as strategy, global business, digital, and asset management. Shinhan Bank has also actively recruited external experts in the digital sector since 2017, including Executive Directors Cheolgi Kim and Hyunki Jang.
Additionally, as the first in the banking sector, Shinhan Bank introduced digital and ICT rolling recruitment and a special admission track for the Samsung Software Academy For Youth (SSAFY), putting significant effort into attracting future talent. Despite the impact of COVID-19 this year, it hired over 100 digital and ICT talents.
