Daehangno Marronnier Park's Giant Tree and Light Box to Ease COVID-19 Depression
Jongno-gu to Host '2020 Daehangno Good Street Marronnier' Until January 5 Next Year... Erects 6.5m Tall Large Tree in Park for Christmas Atmosphere and Installs 'Light Boxes' to Deliver Positive Messages to Passersby
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] As the year-end and New Year approach, a pleasant change has come to comfort citizens weary from COVID-19 around Marronnier Park in Daehangno.
Jongno-gu (District Mayor Kim Young-jong) will operate the '2020 Daehangno Good Street Marronnier' for six weeks from November 24 to January 5 of next year.
To create a Christmas atmosphere, the district has erected a large tree about 6.5 meters tall in Marronnier Park and installed a light box measuring 7 meters wide and 3 meters high to deliver positive messages to passing citizens.
Inside the box are various phrases such as "You worked hard, it will be okay" and "Let's be happy," offering encouragement to citizens who have had an especially difficult year due to COVID-19.
Additionally, a photo zone decorated charmingly with snowman and gift box models has been set up to allow any passing citizen to leave special memories.
Subtle lighting has been installed on the trees and flower beds within the park to create a hopeful atmosphere, helping citizens briefly comfort their tough daily lives and refresh their spirits here.
The lighting ceremony, where everyone lights up the large tree together and prays for New Year's wishes, will be held at 4 p.m. on December 1. This event, held modestly while strictly observing social distancing, will proceed with the Christmas tree lighting followed by the delivery of Christmas hope messages.
District Mayor Kim Young-jong said, "This year, which has been especially eventful due to COVID-19, is coming to an end. Although our hearts are heavy, I hope people take time to feel the year-end and New Year atmosphere by looking at the sparkling tree in Marronnier Park and pray for New Year's wishes with their loved ones."
At Marronnier Park, the 'Bu(jok) Exhibition' has been held from November 14 to December 13.

This exhibition is part of a project to uncover old stories related to Jongno's old alleys and landscapes, with a notable focus on the 'secondary protagonist' overshadowed by the 'main protagonist.' It has received praise for expressing a fresh thematic spirit that reexamines the value of things easily overlooked.
