As winter approaches, she wanted to create a warm sleeping environment. Kim said, "I replaced the bedding I've used since my newlywed days with a lightweight and warm product," adding, "If it means getting quality sleep, I wouldn't hesitate to spend more."
With nighttime temperatures dropping below freezing, warm winter blankets are gaining popularity. Especially amid the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and growing concerns over flu spread, sales of functional bedding that boosts immunity and protects health are also showing strong growth.
The domestic bedding market is estimated to be worth about 1.5 trillion KRW. Among this, the functional bedding market is valued at 600 billion KRW and is steadily growing by 10% annually. As of last year, the top three companies by sales?Welcron Group (102.3 billion KRW), Ideok I&C (94.2 billion KRW), and Evejari (60.7 billion KRW)?account for more than half of the total market.
In particular, the functional products of these three companies see their highest sales in winter when daylight hours decrease. Industry experts analyze that demand for functional bedding increases because melatonin secretion, which induces sleep, decreases during this season.
Accordingly, bedding companies are adopting aggressive expansion strategies by launching functional products for winter and conducting various promotions.
Sesaliving’s ‘Welpo’: Combining Warmth and Allergy Prevention Functionality
Welcron’s functional bedding brand Sesaliving introduced the ‘Welpo (Welrosh-Pogni)’ bedding series, which uses their self-developed allergy-preventive fabric ‘Welrosh’ together with the highly warm ‘Pogni’ fabric.
Winter bedding Pogni is known for its soft texture and excellent warmth but has been criticized for generating a lot of dust and being heavy. The newly launched Welpo bedding by Sesaliving uses Pogni fabric for the inner lining to maintain warmth, while the outer surface uses Welrosh, their allergy-preventive material that does not generate dust, enhancing functionality.
Welcron explains that this product combines the advantages of a warm winter blanket with low dust generation and the ability to block house dust mites.
Evejari Launches ‘Goose Bedding’ Catering to Diverse Consumer Preferences
Evejari is introducing a variety of goose bedding products for the winter season, expanding consumer choices from design to weight.
Evejari’s premium goose products contain over 80% Siberian and Hungarian goose down, using cotton and modal covers that maximize the functionality of the goose down. The raw goose down is washed once more domestically and rinsed multiple times to enhance resilience. Additionally, Polygiene processing is applied to provide anti-mold and antibacterial functions.
The goose filling is available in Q size from 600g to 850g, allowing consumers to select based on their body temperature and preferred weight. The lightweight Snow Goose and Silvering Goose feature microfiber covers with excellent drape that wraps the body. Premium Cloud Goose and Double Shield Goose, weighing over 800g, use fabrics that prevent seepage and emphasize lightness, according to Evejari.
Allerman Sphinx Launches World’s First Allergy-Preventive Mattress
Ideok I&C’s Allerman launched the ‘Allerman Sphinx’ brand in August in collaboration with UK mattress manufacturer Harrison Sphinx, focusing on functional mattress products.
Allerman Sphinx boasts high durability by densely using UK-made HD micro pocket springs imported from Harrison Sphinx. It is the world’s first allergy-preventive mattress incorporating their proprietary Allergy X-cover fabric. Furthermore, Allerman explains that the mattress is produced in a cleanroom used for medical devices, employing antibacterial air showers and double UV sterilization with double packaging to ensure perfect hygiene.
