Wang, China's Foreign Minister: "The Fate of the Korean Peninsula Should Be in the Hands of Both South and North"

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] Wang Yi, Chinese Foreign Minister and State Councilor, stated that "the fate of the Korean Peninsula should be in the hands of both the South and North sides."
On the 27th, Minister Wang visited Park Byeong-seok, Speaker of the National Assembly, and said, "The South and North sides are the true owners of the Korean Peninsula," adding, "As an important neighbor of the Korean Peninsula, China will continue to play a constructive role."
This was in response to Speaker Park's remark, "I firmly believe that the ultimate decision-makers of South and North Korea are South and North Korea themselves." Speaker Park also said, "However, international cooperation is absolutely important. Especially, cooperation between the United States and China is necessary."
Minister Wang said, "President Moon Jae-in values the strategic cooperative partnership with China and has expressed his intention to promote the development of this relationship," adding, "China should work together on establishing the Northeast Asia epidemic prevention and health cooperation system proposed by Korea."
He continued, "The two countries, China and Korea, are at a turning point not seen in 100 years," and added, "I hope the Speaker will take more interest in the establishment and operation of the Korea-China Future Development Committee."

Speaker Park expressed, "I am very grateful for the constructive cooperation China has shown so far," and requested, "Please play a greater role in bringing North Korea to the dialogue and negotiation table." He also added, "In 2022, we will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Korea-China diplomatic relations, and I hope that a high-level strategic dialogue at the international level will be institutionalized."
