Love's Hammering Echoed Throughout Seongbuk-gu
Seongbuk-gu, Dec 21-22 Home Repair Volunteer Service for Underprivileged Neighbors by 3 Volunteer Groups... 50 Volunteers from Seongbuk Geumwoo Home Repair Volunteer Group, Jongam-dong Youth Association Volunteer Group, and Ingeommo Participate
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) and three volunteer organizations carried out acts of love through home repairs for low-income and marginalized neighbors.
Over two days from the 21st to the 22nd, the Seongbuk-gu Volunteer Center and local home repair volunteer groups conducted home repair volunteer activities for four households consisting of low-income elderly living alone and grandparent-grandchild families.
The three groups involved were Seongbuk Geumwoo Home Repair Volunteer Group (Leader Park Cheong-gi), Jongam-dong Youth Association Volunteer Group (Leader Kim Jeong-guk), and Ingeonmo (Leader Kim Hee-young), composed of members interested in interior design and architecture in Seoul, with a total of 50 volunteers participating.
The first household they repaired with love was an old house inhabited by an elderly person living alone, where mold was severe throughout the house, raising health concerns.
The Seongbuk-gu Volunteer Center and the volunteer groups replaced the old flooring and moldy wallpaper, as well as the bathroom toilet and kitchen sink. They also organized the interior of the house. Despite the cold weather, everyone was sweating profusely with the thought that the resident could live in a comfortable living environment.
Each volunteer group leader said, "2020 was not easy for volunteer activities due to COVID-19," adding, "Many elderly people, despite having children, could not receive care due to economic difficulties, but we feel rewarded to bring a small smile to them through our efforts."
Seongbuk-gu Mayor Lee Seung-ro also rolled up his sleeves and joined the home repair volunteer work. He stated, "Despite the difficult times due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, thanks to those who willingly gave their precious time to help neighbors in need like the home repair volunteer groups, the administration was able to unite efforts to prevent the local spread of COVID-19," and added, "We will provide meticulous support to ensure no difficulties in volunteer activities and do our best to discover and support vulnerable groups."
