View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced that it will hold an online briefing session on the 'Distributed Energy Activation Roadmap (Draft)' with the Korea Energy Agency from 2 p.m. on the 27th.
The session will explain the main policy directions of the roadmap scheduled to be announced at the end of this year and gather opinions from stakeholders such as industry and local governments.
First, a system will be established to support the benefits of distributed energy in power transmission and distribution as well as volatility benefits. A system to disperse new demand in the metropolitan area to local regions will be reviewed.
Market system reforms, including a renewable energy generation forecasting system, will be promoted. This is to enable renewable energy, which cannot be adjusted according to power supply and demand, to be converted into adjustable resources.
An integrated renewable energy control system and public Energy Storage Systems (ESS) will be established to enhance grid stability. Developments will be made in green hydrogen production using surplus renewable energy, electric vehicle charging and discharging, and thermal storage.
Support will be provided for the construction of customized microgrids at the basic local government level. The establishment of regional energy centers will be pursued. This aims to help regions take the lead in distributed energy systems.
Kim Jeong-il, Director of Energy Innovation Policy at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, stated, "With South Korea's recent declaration of carbon neutrality by 2050, building distributed energy systems has become a necessity rather than an option," adding, "The future energy system will move toward a direction where all energy consumers produce, consume, and trade low-carbon energy nearby."
