View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgi Kim] As Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae filed disciplinary charges and ordered the suspension of Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol, former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon criticized on the 24th, saying, "President Moon Jae-in is just a figurehead anyway, and the dominant 586 (people in their 50s, who were university students in the 1980s, born in the 1960s) faction beneath him has decided to just push forward recklessly by putting forward Choo Mi-ae, who seems somewhat lacking."
On the same day, Jin posted on his Facebook, "I expected that (Minister Choo) would do all sorts of things to drive out the Prosecutor General, but the method is beyond imagination. It's at the level of emergency measures during the Third Republic," he said.
He added, "I believe the legally guaranteed term of the Prosecutor General has been effectively nullified by the arbitrary will of the ruler, ignoring rules and procedures. When the rule of law is destroyed, life becomes unpredictable," and "Although he is the Prosecutor General now, soon those who have differing opinions, and eventually the entire nation, will become targets of such arbitrary actions."
He continued, "The democratic principle of separation of powers has collapsed. It almost looks like a Stalinist trial. As the saying goes, power does not last ten years; let's see how long this lasts," and added, "I have a vague feeling that Minister Choo's final days will be unfortunate. Even though she is recklessly pushing forward without considering consequences, I find myself worried."
