John Lee, President of Google Korea, to Depart for Singapore
[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Recently, amid controversies over Google's 30% commission fee and forced in-app payments, John Lee, President of Google Korea, is relocating to the Singapore office.
A Google Korea official stated on the 24th, "John Lee, who has been overseeing Korean operations, will take charge of Google Asia Pacific (APAC) product sales starting next year." He will be responsible for overseeing YouTube product sales across the Asia region.
However, John Lee will continue to manage Korean operations until a successor is appointed.
Since 2014, John Lee has held the title of Country Director, representing Google Korea for seven years.
From 2017 to 2019, he appeared as a witness at the National Assembly's audit hearings, where he was criticized for consistently denying knowledge regarding Korean sales and tax payments. At this year's audit, Im Jae-hyun, Executive Director of Google Korea, appeared instead of John Lee.
