Co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Institute of Architects, this award was established in 2006 to raise social interest in quality living spaces and improve the cultural quality of life for the public, and this year marks its 15th edition.
A panel of experts selected six winning works, including ‘Sinchon, Paranggorae,’ through first, second, and final rounds of judging from 35 entries nationwide.
The judging criteria included realization of spatial value centered on the local community, creation of unique culture, spatial planning based on cultural creativity, and participation of various stakeholders.
The judging committee evaluated that ‘Sinchon, Paranggorae’ transformed urban space into a distinctive and attractive place through creative ideas.
This place opened in May last year as a cultural urban regeneration space aimed at revitalizing youth culture networks, local culture, and the Sinchon commercial district.
It operates as a ‘Youth Culture Hub’ where university students, young people, and merchants in the Sinchon area gather to interact and plan and execute local linkage projects.
