Gwangju Buk-gu Prepares 809.1 Billion Won Budget for Next Year... Submitted to District Council
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Moon In) announced on the 23rd that it has prepared the 2021 budget at 809.1 billion won and submitted it to the district council.
Next year's budget increased by 13.9% compared to this year's budget of 710.2 billion won.
By account, the general account increased by 14.2% to 802.6 billion won, while other special accounts decreased by 8.9% to 6.5 billion won.
This budget proposal focused on revitalizing the local economy and stabilizing the livelihood economy, considering the difficulties of residents such as prolonged COVID-19, regional economic recession, and employment instability.
By sector based on the general account, expenditure budgets are 550.3 billion won (68.6%, an increase of 66.9 billion won) for social welfare, 29.1 billion won (3.6%, an increase of 20.6 billion won) for culture and tourism, 22.1 billion won (2.8%) for general public administration, 20.8 billion won (2.6%) for environment, and 19.0 billion won (2.4%) for health.
Major projects in the social welfare sector include basic pension payments of 146.6 billion won, livelihood benefits of 63.0 billion won, infant care fee support of 42.2 billion won, support for activities of the disabled of 30.3 billion won, child allowance of 26.2 billion won, and birth and childcare allowance of 14.8 billion won.
In the culture and tourism sector, budgets were allocated as follows: 5.3 billion won for the Jungheung Complex Public Library, 7.1 billion won for the Sinyong Complex Public Library, 2.1 billion won for the Usan Neighborhood Park Complex Sports Center, 4.3 billion won for the Bandabi Complex Sports Center, 0.4 billion won for the Usan-dong Life SOC Complex Project, and 0.2 billion won for the installation of deck roads and small parks on Hwanbyeokdang-gil.
Additionally, for urban regeneration of the old downtown, 3.0 billion won was allocated for startup infrastructure creation using university assets and local commercial district revitalization projects, 2.3 billion won for the Imdong Urban Regeneration New Deal Project, and 0.5 billion won for the Gwangju Station Youth Creativity Market project. Furthermore, 2.9 billion won was allocated for disaster recovery projects due to last summer's heavy rain damage.
The 2021 budget proposal is scheduled to be finalized on the 18th of next month after deliberations by the Buk-gu Council Standing Committee and the Budget and Accounts Special Committee, which will begin on the 4th of next month.
