[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] What was the figurative art scene in Busan like in the 1980s? Following the academic seminar revisiting Busan art of the 1960s and 70s, an academic event reflecting on the art trends of the 1980s is awaiting in Busan.
The Busan Museum of Art will hold an academic seminar titled "Busan, Figurative Art: Focusing on the 1980s" at 1 PM on December 18th in the museum auditorium.
This is a follow-up seminar to the academic seminar "Revisiting Busan Art of the 1960s and 70s" held in July this year.
Planned as part of the research on Busan art of the 1980s ahead of the "Busan Art Spotlight Exhibition ? Figurative Art (tentative title)" to be held next spring, the seminar aims to reexamine Busan’s figurative art in relation to Korea’s 1980s art trends and the sociocultural history of the Busan region.
Busan figurative art is one of the most representative and controversial topics within Busan art discourse. In this seminar, the Busan Museum of Art will discuss Busan figurative art centered on the 1980s and also explore whether it can be used as a proper noun.
The event consists of ▲reviewing museum archiving materials and ▲five keynote presentations by Professor Sim Sang-yong of Seoul National University, art critic Kim Jong-gil, Professor Park Young-taek of Kyonggi University, critic Kang Seon-hak, and Professor Park Hoon-ha of Kyungsung University, as well as a discussion involving eight artists active at the time, including Lee Tae-ho, Kim Nan-young, and Ye Yu-geun.
The seminar is open to everyone. Registration begins on November 23rd via the Busan Museum of Art website and will be closed on a first-come, first-served basis for up to 60 participants in accordance with social distancing measures.
