View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] LG Electronics announced on the 22nd that its OLED Gallery TV (model name: GX) has been selected as one of this year's Best Inventions (The 100 Best Inventions of 2020) by the American weekly magazine Time.
LG OLED TVs have been selected as Time's Best Inventions for two consecutive years. Last year, the world's first 8K OLED TV, LG Signature OLED 8K, was chosen as the TV of the Future in the entertainment category.
The LG OLED Gallery TV was selected in the entertainment category as "A (Really) Flat-Screen TV." The media praised this product for providing the clear picture quality expected by TV experts by emitting light from each individual pixel without a backlight, unlike conventional TVs that use LED backlighting, thereby achieving deep contrast ratios.
Additionally, with an overall TV thickness of only about 2 centimeters, it achieves a wall-hugging design, and its broad compatibility with various AI platforms such as Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa was also mentioned as an advantage.
The LG OLED Gallery TV, based on the 65-inch model, has a thickness of less than 2 centimeters and integrates the screen, driving components, speakers, and wall-mount parts all within the unit. Without the need for external devices, the entire TV fits flush against the wall. Compared to installing conventional TVs on walls, it offers superior screen immersion and makes the installed space more beautiful.
Time selects and announces innovative products and services every year. This year, it selected 100 innovative products across 24 fields including entertainment, connectivity, artificial intelligence, beauty, medical, and sustainability, including the LG OLED Gallery TV in the entertainment category.
Meanwhile, besides the top 100 inventions, Time also highlighted LG Electronics' 5G smartphone LG Wing in the Special Mentions section, which features products and services released this year that attracted attention.
The LG Wing offers a different user experience by adding a Swivel Mode to the convenience of a bar-type smartphone. Time praised the innovation of being able to open different apps on each display to perform multitasking.
