Why Did Jongno-gu Rank First in Personal Information Management Among Seoul's Autonomous Districts?
Seoul City Ranks 1st in 'Personal Information Protection Management Compliance Check'...Results from July to September Written and On-site Inspections Based on Diagnostic Indicators for All 75 Seoul City Institutions
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jongno-gu (District Mayor Kim Young-jong) achieved a total score of 81.79 points in Seoul City's ‘2020 Personal Information Protection Management Status Compliance Inspection,’ ranking first among Seoul's autonomous districts.
This result came from a written and on-site inspection (consulting) of management status conducted for each institution from July to September this year, based on Seoul City's key diagnostic indicators targeting all Seoul city institutions.
Among these, Jongno-gu received high scores in account management by managing application, suspension, and deletion histories of accounts by personal information handlers, restricting simultaneous logins, and prohibiting account sharing.
Jongno-gu has consistently worked to systematically implement various obligations and compliance requirements mandated by relevant laws to protect residents' rights and interests and to enhance trust in district administration.
This year, at the beginning of the year, a ‘Comprehensive Survey and Maintenance of Personal Information Files’ was conducted, targeting personal information files held by all employees, destroying files that had exceeded retention periods or were unnecessary, and identifying the processing status and grounds for unique identification information, sensitive information, and general personal information.
The district also obtained the Information Protection Certification Mark (i-Safe), which evaluates the level of personal information protection on the website, for the 15th consecutive year, and inspected compliance on 15 related items including access rights management related to personal information, storage and inspection of access records, and encryption measures.
Furthermore, to improve the personal information handling level of personal information protection officers, staff, middle managers, and personal information handlers, education on related laws and procedures was conducted, along with related true/false quizzes during administrative system logins.
In February this year, the district integrated access rights management standards for personal information processing systems to establish systematic criteria and introduced an access record management system to the Real Estate Comprehensive Register system to prevent leakage or exposure accidents of personal information and ensure safety.
Jongno-gu does not settle for the current compliance inspection results and plans to actively carry out personal information protection activities based on the introduction of an OCR-based personal information blocking solution and the establishment of a personal information file management system for easier management of personal information files in 2021.
