Gyeongbuk Province to Establish 'Let's Run' Race Park in Yeongcheon City by 2025… KRA to Invest 365.9 Billion Won
Lee Cheol-woo Governor "Yeongcheon Race Park to Become a Global Horse Industry Hub"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] A horse racing park equipped with a waterside park and family camping site will be established on a 1.45 million㎡ (440,000 pyeong) site in Geumho-eup and Cheongtong-myeon, Yeongcheon-si, Gyeongbuk.
Recently, Gyeongsangbuk-do, which announced the approval of the implementation plan for the Yeongcheon Horse Racing Park construction project, held a ceremony on the 18th at the horse racing park site to commemorate the project approval, attended by Governor Lee Cheol-woo, National Assembly member Lee Man-hee (Chairman of the People Power Party Gyeongbuk Provincial Party), Korea Racing Authority Chairman Kim Nak-soon, and Yeongcheon Mayor Choi Ki-moon.
Following the project approval, the Korea Racing Authority plans to invest a total of 365.9 billion KRW to build horse racing facilities along with a healing horseback riding center, waterside park, family camping site, and other citizen relaxation facilities by 2025.
Once the horse racing park is fully operational, the average daily visitors are estimated to range from 5,000 to a maximum of 9,000, reaching 350,000 annually. Yeongcheon City expects it to emerge as a new local attraction through the creation of various cultural and leisure facilities alongside the horse racing park.
The Yeongcheon Horse Racing Park was selected as the candidate site for the 4th horse racing park in December 2009, but the project was delayed for over 10 years. Then, following the Korea Racing Authority board approval in October 2018, Gyeongbuk Province obtained approvals from related agencies such as the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and on the 9th recently passed all reviews related to the horse racing park construction.
Governor Lee Cheol-woo of Gyeongbuk Province stated, "Since this is a long-awaited project, we will cooperate more closely with related organizations so that the Yeongcheon Horse Racing Park can establish itself as a global horse industry hub and a landmark of the region."
