Meeting with Russian Direct Investment Fund to Hear Russian Position on COVID-19 Vaccine

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Jeong Gi-yong, Director of the Climate Environment Science Diplomacy Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced on the 17th that he visited Moscow at the invitation of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to participate in the "4th Korea-Russia Arctic Council."
Director Jeong also plans to hold discussions with the Russia Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) regarding the COVID-19 vaccine.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the 19th, Director Jeong will hold the Arctic Council meeting with Russia, the next chair country of the Arctic Council (2021?2023), to discuss Arctic cooperation in various fields such as Arctic shipping routes, shipbuilding, and Arctic science.
The Arctic Council, established in 1996, is an intergovernmental forum that promotes cooperation and coordination among Arctic coastal states on common Arctic issues. The eight member countries are Norway, Denmark, Russia, the United States, Sweden, Iceland, Canada, and Finland, all bordering the Arctic, and South Korea obtained observer status in 2013.
On the 20th, he is scheduled to meet with Vladimir Primak, Director of International Cooperation at the Russia Direct Investment Fund, to hear Russia's position on the COVID-19 vaccine developed domestically.

An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained, "This year marks the 30th anniversary of Korea-Russia diplomatic relations. Considering the COVID-19 situation, the two countries have extended the 'Year of Korea-Russia Mutual Exchange' until next year to strengthen exchanges in various fields and plan to promote diplomatic schedules to develop Korea-Russia relations."
