Daegu City Holds 'Patriots and Veterans Day' Ceremony … Kwon Young-jin Pledges Support for Descendants of Independence Patriots

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] On the morning of the 17th, Daegu City held a commemorative ceremony at the Daegu Culture and Arts Center to honor the spirit of sacrifice of the patriotic martyrs on the occasion of the 81st National Patriots' Day, attended by about 120 people including patriots, bereaved families, heads of organizations and institutions, and citizens.
The event, hosted by the Daegu branch of the Liberation Association, proceeded in the order of reading the memorial address for the patriots by the head of the Daegu branch of the Liberation Association (No Su-moon), awarding of independence merit awards, commemorative speeches, a special performance by the Yeongnam Folk Song Research Association, and a three cheers for victory.
At the independence merit award ceremony, the bereaved families received awards on behalf of the late Kim Seong-yong (born September 9, 1913), who was awarded the Presidential Citation for his dedication to the domestic anti-Japanese movement as a member of the secret organization Hoeui-dan, and the late Han Tae-eun (born September 23, 1920), who was awarded the Patriotic Medal for her contributions as a woman serving in the Korean Women's Service Corps of the Joseon Volunteer Army and as a member of the Liberation Army in Chungking, China.
Before the ceremony, about 20 people including Mayor Kwon Young-jin, patriots, heads of veterans' organizations, and members of the Liberation Association visited the National Sinam Patriots' Park to pay tribute to the spirit of patriotism and devotion.

At the ceremony, Daegu Mayor Kwon Young-jin stated, "Following the completion of the 3.1 Independence Movement Memorial Street project, we plan to complete the Daegu History Road project within this year at the Daegu Anti-Japanese Independence Movement Memorial Tower Plaza to use it as an educational site to cultivate patriotism among youth," and pledged, "We will continue to support the grandchildren of independence patriots who do not receive government support and create a warm and inclusive society."
