Chosun University Launches Youth Volleyball Team, First Professional Volleyball Team in Gwangju
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwanwoo] Chosun University has joined hands with the famous professional volleyball team Hyundai Capital Skywalkers to establish a youth volleyball team in Gwangju Metropolitan City.
This is known to be the first case of a youth volleyball team operated by a professional volleyball team being founded in the Gwangju area, attracting attention from the local sports community.
On the afternoon of the 16th, Chosun University announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Hyundai Capital Skywalkers professional volleyball team in a small conference room on the 2nd floor of the main building.
This agreement was prepared as part of efforts to improve the physical fitness activities of elementary and middle school students in Gwangju and to expand the base of volleyball, aiming to establish and operate a youth volleyball team run by Hyundai Capital Skywalkers in Gwangju.
Starting next month, Chosun University and Hyundai Capital Skywalkers plan to operate four youth volleyball teams composed of 200 elementary and middle school students from Gwangju.
It is expected that the capabilities of the newly established volleyball teams will be greatly enhanced as not only the Chosun University faculty but also Hyundai Capital professional players will directly coach the youth players at the Chosun University gymnasium.
Attending the signing ceremony were Hyundai Capital’s Director Lee Gyochang, Director Kim Seongwoo, player and captain Moon Seongmin, Public Relations Team Leader Yoon Woongseok, and Business Team Leader Oh Hwawon. From Chosun University, President Min Youngdon, Dean of Student Affairs Yoon Onam, Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Physical Education Ahn Yongdeok, Director of Physical Education Lee Gyehaeng, Volleyball Department Head Professor Song Chaehun, Sports Industry Department Professor Kim Mincheol, and Taekwondo Department Professor Jeong Hongyong participated.
Lee Gyochang, Director of the Skywalkers, said, “We are pleased to work with Chosun University, a prestigious local sports university, to establish the roots of a youth volleyball team in the Gwangju area, and we hope that the newly founded youth volleyball team will create a major framework for nurturing local volleyball talent.”
