Democratic Party Holds 1st Meeting of Seoul Mayoral Election Planning Team... "Turning Point for Regime Re-Creation, Dice Have Been Cast"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] The Democratic Party of Korea held the first meeting of the Seoul Mayor By-election Planning Team on the 16th and reaffirmed their determination to win next year's Seoul mayoral by-election.
Kim Min-seok, a Democratic Party lawmaker and head of the planning team, stated at the first meeting held at the National Assembly that morning, "The dice have been cast," adding, "We will create a foundation for a victory that the party takes responsibility for. Therefore, we will nurture an excellent candidate with individuality and policies."
Kim said, "This election is crucial for the lives of Seoul citizens and urgent for the party and the nation," emphasizing, "We will not be distracted by political strife with other parties. We will focus solely on the citizens. We will devote all our efforts to gaining the citizens' sympathy."
Ki Dong-min, a lawmaker and chairman of the Seoul City Party Committee, said, "The situation is not easy. Especially, the Seoul mayoral election is directly connected to many livelihood issues such as real estate problems," adding, "This by-election is an extremely important turning point that will determine whether we proceed on the path of regime re-creation or face another difficult road depending on the results." He further said, "Although it is a difficult process, let's discuss how to overcome it and regain the people's trust."
After the meeting, Kim told reporters, "Today, we discussed the overall election stance and the roles and schedules of each part," adding, "We have defined this election as a critical election and decided to start preparations with responsibility."
Regarding specific 'primary rules,' such as awarding additional points to female candidates, he said, "That is under the jurisdiction of the central party," but added, "We are making efforts to introduce new methods. Although the details will be discussed by the central party, we will take an interest and gather opinions on the primary system and the introduction of new systems."
