Geumcheon Eoullim Welfare Center Opening
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon) held an opening ceremony for the 'Geumcheon Eoullim Welfare Center,' a facility for the independence of people with disabilities and support for families of people with disabilities, on the 13th.
The opening ceremony was held simply with fewer than 50 attendees, including Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon, members of the National Assembly, city and district council members, residents of the facility, and people with disabilities who will use the center, considering social distancing measures. The event included ▲a pre-celebration performance ▲viewing of a congratulatory video ▲ribbon cutting ▲facility tour in sequence.
The district established a plan to build a facility to support convenience for people with disabilities in 2016. Since March 2019, construction began on the site of a social welfare facility within a special planning zone of a military base in the region, and in September, the 'Geumcheon Eoullim Welfare Center' was completed with a scale of one basement floor to six above-ground floors.
Inside the center, there are various convenience support facilities such as the Geumcheon Lifelong Education Center for People with Developmental Disabilities, Geumcheon Daycare Center for People with Developmental Disabilities, Geumcheon Shelter for the Deaf, Geumcheon Sign Language Interpretation Center, and Geumcheon Support Center for Families of People with Disabilities. It also houses offices of disability organizations such as the Seoul Deaf Association Geumcheon Branch, Korea Physical Disability Welfare Association Geumcheon Branch, and Seoul Parents of Disabled Persons Geumcheon Chapter.

Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon of Geumcheon-gu said, “Since the Geumcheon Eoullim Welfare Center was created with the understanding and great help of local residents, I hope it will become a wonderful space.” He added, “We will work even harder to create a Geumcheon where everyone, regardless of disability, can live well together.”
