SK Innovation's ESG Management Efforts Globally Recognized... Selected as 'DJSI World Company' for 4 Consecutive Years
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoonju Hwang] SK Innovation, which is actively promoting ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management, has been selected as a 'DJSI World company' for the fourth consecutive year in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) evaluation.
ESG refers to the value created in non-financial factors such as Environment, Social, and Governance.
DJSI is a sustainability index announced annually by the U.S. S&P Dow Jones, a global financial information provider, and RobecoSAM, a Swiss sustainability assessment specialist. It comprehensively evaluates companies' economic performance as well as environmental and social value creation, selecting only the top 10% of evaluated companies as DJSI World companies.
The globally most trusted ESG evaluation, DJSI, was conducted on 2,540 companies worldwide (based on market capitalization of liquid assets), and 17 companies in Korea were selected as DJSI World companies. In the 'Oil and Gas' sector, SK Innovation has been included in the DJSI World, DJSI Asia Pacific, and DJSI Korea indices for four consecutive years.
Additionally, SK Innovation received a comprehensive A grade in this year's ESG evaluation conducted by the Korea Corporate Governance Service. SK Innovation was especially recognized for its active ESG management by domestic and international stakeholders, ranking first among approximately 740 listed companies in Korea in the Social (S) category.
Amid global attention on corporate ESG management due to recent issues such as climate change and plastic waste, SK Innovation is actively promoting ESG management based on its company vision, 'Green Balance 2030.' In 2019, SK Innovation announced the 'Green Balance 2030' strategy to reduce the negative environmental impact of existing businesses and offset environmental negative value through the development of eco-friendly business models, aiming to achieve zero environmental negative impact by 2030.
