Chungnam 'Fine Dust Emergency Reduction Measures'... Operation of Grade 5 Vehicles and Thermal Power Plants Restricted
[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Emergency fine dust reduction measures have been issued across Chungnam Province. The measures apply from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on the 16th, during which vehicle operation restrictions and reduced operating rates of thermal power plants will be enforced.
According to Chungnam Province on the 16th, this is the second emergency fine dust reduction measure issued this winter. The emergency reduction measure is implemented when the average fine dust concentration exceeds 50㎍ per 1㎡ on the day and is expected to continue the next day. Meeting these conditions, the emergency reduction measure was announced the previous day.
With the implementation of the emergency reduction measure, 55 major fine dust emitting businesses in the region, including thermal power, petrochemical, and steel industries, must reduce fine dust emissions by changing operating hours or lowering operating rates. Violations will result in fines of up to 2 million KRW.
In the region, operation of grade 5 emission vehicles is restricted according to the emergency reduction measure. Grade 5 vehicles include diesel vehicles subject to standards before July 2002 and gasoline and LPG vehicles subject to emission standards before 1987.
The province plans to enforce fines on violating vehicles using 41 surveillance cameras installed at 38 locations within the jurisdiction.
Additionally, administrative and public institutions will be subject to a two-day vehicle operation system.
