Honam University Accelerates Online International Exchange and International Student Recruitment
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Honam University is promoting the development of country-specific customized content, diversification of university introduction and promotional channels targeting potential overseas students, and other initiatives to revitalize international exchange and attract international students in the ‘untact era’ caused by COVID-19.
According to Honam University on the 15th, the International Exchange Office at Honam University is making every effort to attract international students using a ‘non-face-to-face online platform’ as active face-to-face promotional activities have become difficult due to severe restrictions on overseas entry and exit caused by COVID-19.
In particular, promotional materials such as university introductions and admission guidelines have been prepared in a country-specific customized manner to discover new countries and attract international students, and promotional channels such as YouTube videos, WeChat, TikTok, Telegram, and Facebook have been strengthened.
In addition, to gain experience in online student recruitment, the university plans to participate in the ‘2020 Cyber Korea Study Abroad Fair’ hosted by the National Institute for International Education from the 24th of this month to the 7th of next month.
Furthermore, with Chinese universities and institutions with which exchanges have been ongoing, online video conferences are being activated to sign exchange program agreements or raise the level of consultations, and short-term online training programs linked to specific departments are being prepared to further strengthen trust between schools through continuous exchanges.
As a participating university in the ‘KF Global e-School Korean Language Education Project’ VOD lectures hosted by the Korea Foundation, plans are underway to strengthen the global educational foundation in the New Northern and New Southern regions.
The KF Global e-School project, which supports providing Korean-related lectures to overseas universities through domestic and international university connections, selected participating universities this year divided into real-time interactive and VOD types for repetitive learning. Honam University was selected as a participating university for VOD lectures next year and will provide Korean-related VOD lectures to the New Southern regions such as China, Vietnam, and Thailand, as well as the New Northern regions including Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Azerbaijan.
Also, with Shandong Vocational College of Economics and Trade, which obtained permission for a Sino-foreign joint program, new students have been recruited since last September and are currently undergoing education. Both schools jointly operate the entire process from student recruitment to talent development plans and education, strengthening cooperation.
