County Reports 11 New COVID-19 Cases... 8 from Seosan Air Force Base
[Asia Economy Military Specialist Reporter Yang Nak-gyu]The Ministry of National Defense announced on the 13th that a total of 11 people, including 3 officers from an Army unit in Gyeonggi-do, 1 officer and 7 soldiers from an Air Force unit in Seosan, Chungnam, were newly confirmed positive for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
At the Seosan Air Force unit, after a civilian instructor who gave lectures on the 9th and 10th tested positive for COVID-19, contact tracing and diagnostic testing identified 8 positive cases.
One officer from an Army unit in Anyang, Gyeonggi-do, tested positive after a civilian he met on a holiday was confirmed positive, prompting him to undergo diagnostic testing. Epidemiological investigations and diagnostic tests are ongoing at these units, so more confirmed cases may emerge.
At an Army unit in Yangju, Gyeonggi-do, one officer developed symptoms after attending a family funeral and tested positive. Through comprehensive testing of about 200 unit members, one additional officer was confirmed positive, while the rest tested negative.
Since the first confirmed case on the 10th, no additional cases have been reported at the Ministry of National Defense’s direct unit, the Armed Forces Welfare Group, located in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, where 11 cases had been confirmed until the previous day.
A Ministry of National Defense official stated, "After completing diagnostic testing on about 880 people who either live with the Welfare Group confirmed cases or attended the same church service, all except the 11 confirmed cases tested negative," adding, "We have lifted self-quarantine for these individuals."

Meanwhile, one Army officer in Inje has been declared fully recovered. As of this date, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the military stands at 189, with 159 recovered and 30 currently undergoing treatment.
