Wando-gun Promotes Public Art Project 'Uri Dongne Misul'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Shin Woo-cheol) announced on the 13th that it held a signing ceremony on the 11th to promote the public art project called ‘Our Neighborhood Art’.
The agreement was signed between Wando-gun, which is in charge of the project, and the artist teams: Wando Culture and Arts Cooperative (CEO Kim Poong-ho), Choi Seon-ju Western Painting Research Institute (CEO Choi Seon-ju), and Nomi Design (CEO Kang Seung-wan) to successfully carry out the public art project.
Wando-gun’s public art project will install woodcraft sculptures and art pieces, as well as create murals and trick art, at locations frequently used and easily accessible by local residents such as the Wando Community Center, Jangbogo Children’s Playground, and the Dadohae Sunrise Park, which is popular among tourists.
The public art project ‘Our Neighborhood Art’ is a large-scale cultural New Deal project led by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, aimed at providing jobs for artists struggling due to COVID-19 and enhancing cultural enjoyment for residents. Approximately 8,500 artists from 228 local governments nationwide are participating.
Wando-gun held a project briefing session for local artists and residents in August, and in September, selected three final teams through two rounds of artist team recruitment and a selection committee.
Subsequently, the artist teams established the final implementation plan through on-site consulting by the Jeonnam Cultural Foundation and expert advisory committees, and plan to actively promote the project along with the signing ceremony.
