Points Can Be Used for Overseas Investments via Shinhan Bank and Shinhan Financial Investment
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki Ha-young] Shinhan Card announced on the 10th that it has launched the investment-specialized credit card 'Shinhan Card The More,' which allows consumers to spend and invest simultaneously.
The More card is a complex product of Shinhan Financial Group created through collaboration between Shinhan Card, Shinhan Bank, and Shinhan Financial Investment, designed to help customers unfamiliar with financial technology naturally start investing while going about their daily spending.
This product features a structure that accumulates the leftover amounts under 1,000 KRW per transaction, targeting customers in their 20s and 30s who tend to use small payments more frequently. The points accumulated this way can be reinvested monthly into Shinhan Bank's dollar deposit accounts or Shinhan Financial Investment's overseas investment accounts to help grow assets.
First, for payments made at all affiliated merchants, the amount under 1,000 KRW per transaction is accumulated as investment points. For example, if you pay 5,900 KRW, the 900 KRW under the 1,000 KRW unit is accumulated as investment points.
This benefit is provided when the previous month's card usage amount is 300,000 KRW or more and the payment amount per transaction is 5,000 KRW or more. Points can be accumulated without monthly limits on amount or frequency. However, for the same merchant, points are accumulated only once per day.
Also, when paying at special accumulation merchants frequently used by customers in their 20s and 30s, the amount under 1,000 KRW is doubled in points. For example, if you pay 25,800 KRW at a special accumulation merchant, 800 KRW under 1,000 KRW is doubled to 1,600 KRW and accumulated as investment points. Special accumulation points can also be accumulated without monthly limits on amount or frequency. Special accumulation merchants include delivery apps (Baedal Minjok, Yogiyo), digital content (Netflix, YouTube Premium, Watcha, Melon), mobile phone bills, department stores (Lotte, Hyundai, Shinsegae), overseas merchants, and installment transactions.
There is also an annual additional accumulation service inspired by stock dividends. Ten percent of the annual accumulated points earned from January to December are additionally accumulated up to a maximum of 50,000 points. The annual additional accumulation service applies when the annual (January to December) payment amount is 8 million KRW or more. If the card is first issued after July, in the initial year, if the payment amount from July to December is 4 million KRW or more, up to 25,000 points can be accumulated.
Accumulated points can be invested by selecting either a Shinhan Bank dollar deposit account or a Shinhan Financial Investment overseas investment account. When points are deposited into each account, they are converted into US dollars (USD), and foreign exchange fees are waived. Additionally, existing My Shinhan Points can be additionally contributed (invested) through the Shinhan Plus channel within Shinhan Pay Fan, and in this case, foreign exchange fee waivers also apply. If you do not subscribe to a Shinhan Bank or Shinhan Financial Investment account or do not designate an investment account, points are automatically accumulated as My Shinhan Points, which can be used like cash.
The annual fee is 15,000 KRW for domestic-only cards and 18,000 KRW for international cards (Visa). New members issuing the card through the Shinhan Card website or mobile app can receive a first-year annual fee cashback event benefit.
