Seocho-gu "Gather Warm Hearts to Share Love Kimchi Making~~~"
On the 10th, the '2020 Sarang Kimjang Sharing' Delivery Ceremony Held... Delivered to Over 380 Households Including Elderly Living Alone, Single-Parent Families, Child Heads of Households, and Low-Income Disabled Families
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seocho-gu (Mayor Jo Eun-hee) held the '2020 Sharing Love Kimchi Making' delivery ceremony on the afternoon of the 10th at 2 PM in the Seocho-gu Office plaza to help marginalized neighbors have a healthy and warm winter.
The delivery ceremony, hosted by the Seocho-gu Saemaeul Women's Association, was conducted with a minimal number of participants including Saemaeul Women's Association members and Saemaeul Council members due to social distancing measures amid the challenging year caused by COVID-19.
Every year, kimchi was made and shared with about 200 volunteers and Saemaeul Women's Association members at the Seocho-gu Office plaza, but this year, due to COVID-19, 1,600 heads of kimchi cabbage were prepared by mixing cabbage and seasoning in Goesan, Chungbuk, then delivered to Seoul. The love-filled kimchi was distributed to about 380 disadvantaged households including low-income elderly living alone, single-parent families, child-headed households, and low-income disabled families.
This event was also supported by Costco, National Health Insurance Seocho Southern Branch, Nonghyup Distribution, Namseoul Nonghyup, Saemaeul Geumgo Seocho Central Branch, and Shinhan Bank, who sponsored kimchi ingredients and other materials.
Since 2000, the district has continued the Sharing Love Kimchi Making event for 21 years, providing love-filled kimchi to a total of over 5,000 households.
Moon Bok-hee, president of the Seocho-gu Saemaeul Women's Association, expressed her gratitude to the local residents who gathered their sincerity during these difficult times, saying, "There are neighbors who look forward to our kimchi every year, so it is a rewarding and encouraging task."
