Eggslut Delivery Popular for Office Workers' Lunch Meals
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] Amid the struggles faced by major dining-out brands due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), SPC Group's Shake Shack and Eggslut are showing growth through their swift adoption of untact (contactless) services.
According to SPC Paris Croissant on the 10th, Shake Shack's recent sales have shown a growth of over 20% compared to the previous year. This is the result of strengthening delivery and in-store pickup services following the spread of COVID-19. Shake Shack expanded its delivery service, which was previously piloted only at some stores such as the 'Gangnam branch' and 'Cheongdam branch' in April, to all 11 stores except the airport branch.
SPC explained, "Through launching various untact-related services such as delivery and pickup services, we are meeting the needs of consumers in the Seoul area who want delivery and pickup from Shake Shack stores."
They also took thorough measures for in-store hygiene. They installed a 'contactless facial recognition fever checker' that automatically checks body temperature and mask-wearing status, and transparent partitions were installed on shared tables. A smart hand-washing system that allows washing hands with soap without touching the faucet was also installed inside the stores, receiving positive responses.
Shake Shack is also achieving the milestone of opening its 14th store (Daejeon Galleria Timeworld branch) at the end of this month. The Daejeon store is the third non-metropolitan area store following the 'Busan Seomyeon branch' and 'Daegu Dongseong-ro branch.'
Eggslut, a famous sandwich brand from California, USA, which launched last July, has also seen continuous monthly sales growth as its delivery service has gained popularity since opening. An SPC official said, "Since launching the delivery service in September, sales during lunchtime have been the highest," adding, "Sales are similar to those during the existing peak hours." The COEX branch is especially popular among nearby office workers.
