Creation of the 'Designated Protected Tree Pavilion Yard' in Myeonmokbon-dong, Jungnang-gu
Planting of 2,150 Trees and Shrubs of 14 Species and Installation of Gazebo, Pergola, Benches, Play Facilities, and Exercise Equipment
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The only protected tree in Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) has been given a new "Designated Protected Tree Pavilion" in Yangji Village Yard.
The district announced on the 6th that it had created the "Designated Protected Tree Pavilion" in Yangji Village Yard, Myeonmokbon-dong, Jungnang-gu, to improve the growth environment of the protected tree and secure a resting space for nearby residents.
The protected tree in Yangji Village Yard is a Zelkova tree approximately 190 years old, which holds symbolic and historical significance for Jungnang-gu and has been loved by residents. It was designated as a protected tree by Seoul City in 1981.
To manage the protected tree, the district established Yangji Village Yard in 2005, securing some space for residents to rest and for the tree's growth. However, the need for environmental improvements suitable for the growing tree was raised, and since 2019, the district has been actively promoting the "Designated Protected Tree Pavilion" project.
The newly created "Designated Protected Tree Pavilion" secured a land area of 123.6㎡ by compensating for one nearby residential building that was hindering the Zelkova tree's growth, expanding the existing village yard to a total area of 804.6㎡.
In addition, 2,150 trees of 14 species, including crape myrtle, were planted, and facilities such as a pavilion, pergola, benches, playground equipment, and exercise machines were installed, transforming the area into a healing space for nearby residents.
