Earthquake and Fire Experience OK!... Seongdong-gu 'Safety Experience Truck' Arrives
District and Seoul City’s First Mobile Safety Experience Vehicle Pilot Operation... Experience Earthquake, Fire, CPR, Fire Extinguisher Use, etc., Pilot Visits Begin at 5 Locations Including Daycare Centers
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) Seongdong Life Safety Learning Center is piloting the operation of the city’s first ‘Mobile Safety Experience Vehicle’ that allows safety experiences such as earthquake and fire simulations and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training to prepare for disaster situations.
Due to the difficulty of visiting the center for safety education amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the mobile safety experience vehicle visits childcare facilities, especially daycare centers, to provide safety education through hands-on experiences on how to respond to safety accidents that may occur in daily life.
The district allocated an emergency budget to lease the safety experience vehicle for pilot operation. Starting from December 2 at Mujigae Daycare Center, safety education and in-vehicle experience activities will be conducted at five daycare centers and children’s specialized playgrounds such as ‘Kkum Park’ where many children visit.
This vehicle, modified from a 3.5-ton truck, offers safety experiences according to situations including ▲earthquake simulation ▲CPR ▲fire extinguisher usage.
A district official said, “It is important to have ingrained training to urgently respond to sudden disaster situations anywhere, such as the recent Incheon Ramen Brothers incident at home,” and added, “Seongdong Life Safety Learning Center is promoting various projects to normalize safety education, including ‘non-face-to-face live safety experience’ education and this ‘visiting safety experience education’ even amid the COVID-19 situation.”
The education is conducted by professional instructors in collaboration with Seongdong Fire Station. After completing the pilot operation by December, the vehicle rental period will be extended next year to provide ‘visiting safety experience education’ targeting all daycare centers in the region.
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “Safety can never be emphasized too much in any situation,” and added, “We will continuously develop and implement customized education suitable for the COVID-19 situation to help residents develop the ability to wisely respond to any disaster situation.”
Meanwhile, ‘Seongdong Life Safety Learning Center’ is a regional comprehensive safety experience facility established in 2015 as the first of its kind in Seoul’s autonomous districts. It is directly managed and operated by the district and offers various safety programs in fields such as CPR, disaster safety, daily life safety, and water safety.
