During his speech, Biden also extended a hand to the Republican Party. He said, "The practice of demonizing the opposition must stop immediately," and "Democrats and Republicans have always cooperated. If we have chosen not to cooperate in recent years, now we can choose to work together." He further stated, "Our duty is to respond to the demands of the American people through cooperation," and requested, "I ask all members of both the Democratic and Republican parties to join in making that choice."

He added, "We must start by containing the COVID-19 crisis," and "To recover the economy, we must save lives."
